Why youth development matters

We believe in a world where every young person has the opportunity, agency and well-being to thrive

1.2 billion young people aged 15–24 make up 16% of the global population.

68% of parliamentarians worldwide are over the age of 45.

Less than 20% of youth in low-income communities in the U.S. have access to leadership and mentoring programs.

What we believe in

We do what it takes to support and enable young leaders from underserved communities to become problem solvers, leaders, and catalysts of change.

Milaan Foundation believes in a community-centered partnership model that values and uplifts the expertise of local leaders deeply rooted in their communities. We collaborate with grassroots, community-led organizations to advance equity and nurture youth leadership —through education, life skills, and meaningful community engagement.

For over a decade, Milaan Foundation has implemented youth-led leadership programs internationally, with a focus on advancing education and agency-building, empowering over 100,000 young people across India and Uganda.

From underserved communities in India to rural villages in Uganda and now urban neighborhoods across the U.S., we equip young people to become changemakers through bold, youth-led leadership and education programs grounded in social-emotional learning, mentorship, and community action.

Empower girls to lead

Through the Girl Icon Program, we support a movement of Girl Icons who act as role models within their communities. This leadership development program works with 12 to 18-year-old girls who demonstrate courage and commitment to challenge gender regressive social norms.

Driving Leadership with Purpose

The Becoming Initiative is a year-long hybrid program for U.S. high schoolers from marginalized communities, fostering leadership, well-being, and purpose through skill-building, workshops, and a capstone project.
